Liverpool supporters are left stunned by Atalanta's away end for crunch Europa League tie... with the 1,000 Reds fans allowed in to be situated in the corner of the ground in frightful-looking stand: 'Is that for prisoners?'

Liverpool fans were left stunned at the away end for their clash against Atalanta in the Europa League.

The Reds were up against it in their bid to reach the semi-finals of the competition after a calamitous first leg at Anfield last week, and trailed 3-0 going into the game in Italy on Thursday, winning 1-0 on on the night but going out on aggregate.

Supports still held hope, however, and were looking to channel comebacks similar to that against the likes of AC Milan and Barcelona from previous years.

Those travelling to the game, however, were not met with the most pleasant of away ends, and images left fans stunned ahead of one of the most important matches of their season.

Under 1,000 Reds supporters were expected to be at the game, and they had to be in fine form to make themselves heard from the rusty stand situated behind a fence.

Images showed a stand made up of blue and black seats crammed into the corner of the stadium, which was home to Liverpool fans for a few hours on Thursday.

The end gave off somewhat of a scaffolding vibe, with metal poles surrounding the stand, which in itself looked like a temporary combination of poles and plastic.

To the left of the stand, a building containing more permanent seats could be seen, but that was out of bounds for the Liverpool supporters making the journey across Europe.

The stand was situated behind what appeared to be a glass fence-like structure, with yellow, padlocked gates surrounding it.

On the other side, tools used to work on the pitch could be seen resting on AstroTurf, with a lamppost of sorts in the way of the view of the pitch for good measure.

'Is that area for prisoners on day release?' one user posted on X, formerly Twitter, in relation to the reveal of the Liverpool end.

'Looks like Guantanamo Bay!' another wrote. 'However, up the Reds!'

A third posted: 'Reminds me of Away days at Maine road!'

The Reds needed to overturn the three-goal deficit to keep their hopes of another trophy in Jurgen Klopp's farewell tour alive but hoped to take inspiration from not only their historic comebacks but from winning 5-0 in Atalanta in the 2020 Champions League.

They are in an indifferent run of form, however, having lost heavily to Thursday's opponents last week in between a Premier League draw against rivals Manchester United and a home defeat to Crystal Palace.

The Premier League's third-place side will follow up Thursday's game with a trip to Fulham in league action on Sunday.
