Liverpool’s first summer friendly with Preston North End is set to go ahead.

A decision was made to consult players and staff over fulfilling the July 13 fixture following Diogo Jota’s untimely death last Thursday in Spain.

Jota was travelling back to Merseyside for the start of pre-season training when he and brother Andre Silva lost their lives after a motorway tyre blowout.

The majority of the late Portugal international’s colleagues were present as he and Silva were laid to rest in their home town of Gondomar last weekend.

But the Reds’ squad have agreed to take part in the Deepdale encounter in their first footballing involvement since the popular forward’s passing.

ITV 1 are set to broadcast the 3pm kick-off live in the UK on what will invariably be an emotional afternoon for the Premier League champions.

Arne Slot’s side returned to pre-season training on Tuesday after it was pushed back as the club continued to come to terms with the loss of Jota.
