Liverpool are expected to revisit their interest in Marc Guehi when the transfer window reopens after Crystal Palace pulled the plug on a deadline day move for the England star.

Guehi, 25, is in the final year of his contract at Selhurst Park and has been heavily linked with the Premier League champions in recent months.

Palace subsequently decided against sanctioning Guehi's exit - even though he had undertaken part of his medical.

While Guehi will not be running out at Anfield anytime soon, The Mail have confirmed that he remains a player of interest to Liverpool, who are likely to try and sign him again in January or next summer, when Guehi would be a free agent.

The Reds fared better in their pursuit of Alexander Isak, who completed a British record £125m move to Anfield late on deadline day.

But he was not joined by Guehi, even though a dealsheet giving both clubs until 9pm to finalise a deal was requested.

Oliver Glasner, the Eagles head coach, has made no secret of his desire to keep Guehi at the club beyond the transfer window.

Speaking after Guehi scored in the 3-0 win over Aston Villa on Sunday, Glasner said: “We have to (keep Guehi) if we want to play a successful season… we need Marc.

“It is not possible within one day to find a replacement who can play immediately in the Premier League.

Marc isn’t a small part in this, he’s our captain.
