Liverpool FC have reportedly targeted Parma's young defender Giovanni Leoni after their hopes of signing Marc Guehi took a hit.
The England defender has just a year left on his contract, but Palace still value him in the region of £50m, a figure that Liverpool are not prepared to pay.
That has forced the Reds to look elsewhere.
Giovanni Leoni looks up to former Manchester United defender Chris Smalling.
He also curiously mentioned that he takes inspiration from Chris Smalling, the former Manchester United and England defender, who spent five years in Italy with Roma.
“I take inspiration from Van Dijk and Smalling,” Leoni told former club Padova.
He made his debut for the Serie C club at the age of 16 and a year later he joined Sampdoria for £1.3m.

However, only a few months after his loan turned into a permanent move, Leoni headed to Parma for £4.1m, where he broke into the team under Christian Chivu.
Liverpool will face competition for his signature though, with Chivu’s former club Inter Milan and Barcelona thought to be interested in the talented centre-back.
But if the Reds were not already aware, setbacks in pre-season have made it clear that a new defender should be their seventh signing of the summer.
