Liverpool have already reinforced their frontline and midfield extensively this summer.
The 4-2 win over Bournemouth showed some defensive lapses, with the champions conceding twice from counter-attacks and showing susceptibility to quick breaks.
To shore up their rearguard, Liverpool turned to Parma’s promising 18-year-old centre-back Giovanni Leoni.
Standing at 6ft 5in, Leoni arrives as a depth option, offering cover alongside the ever-present Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konaté, both of whom logged over 30 league appearances each last season.
His physical presence and aerial prowess provide insurance against injuries to senior defenders, although he is viewed more as a long-term project than an immediate upgrade.
However, there are still reinforcements needed in the attack.
Arne Slot admitted last week, saying to Sky Sport:
“I see Hugo mainly as a No.9, that could also play from the left or together with another no.9.”
“We need to have one more attacker at least.”
DaveOCKOP exclusively reported on Friday that Liverpool FC are considering spending £60-70 million on a new winger before the September 1st deadline.
It would be separate from any Alexander Isak deal, with the club’s hierarchy aware that more options on the flanks will be needed to compete on four front this season.
And one player who has been linked to Liverpool by Fabrizio Romano in Malick Fofana has seemingly left the door open to a transfer.
The Belgian international managed 11 goals and five assists in 41 outings for Lyon last season.
And speaking to BeIN Sports after Lyon’s first Ligue 1 game of the season, Fofana did not rule out an exit from the French club:
“If I stay in Lyon, that’s a tricky question.
In football, anything can happen, we’ll see,” Fofana said.
“In football, anything can happen, we’ll see?
I hope to play a lot because the World Cup is coming, and I hope to be selected.”
Earlier on in the window, L’Equipe reported that the Reds touched base with the representatives of Fofana.
