Mark Lawrenson has cast doubt on whether Takumi Minamino has a future at Liverpool.

“If the worst comes to the worst and they decide that he’s not going to make it then we’re going to make a lot of money on him.” Minamino joined Liverpool from Austrian club RB Salzburg in January of last year after the club triggered his £7.25 million release clause.

The Japanese midfielder has made 10 appearances across all competitions this season, but is very much a peripheral figure in Jurgen Klopp’s plans.

Former Liverpool defender Lawrenson, praised the 26-year-old's work rate, but believes he will continue to struggle for minutes at the club.

However, City are now top of the table following their 3-1 win at Watford, with Klopp's side a point behind in second.

Minamino was an unused substitute during Liverpool's win at Wolves on Saturday, Divock Origi scored a last minute winner to seal a 1-0 victory which briefly sent the Reds top of the Premier League following Chelsea's defeat at West Ham.
