A statement from the North West Ambulance Service has just been published.

It says, "following reports of a road traffic collision", its crews are dealing with the incident in Liverpool city centre.

The bus carrying the Liverpool squad has now reached The Strand in the city centre.

Some Liverpool fans have waited eight or nine hours to bag a prime spot, though many of those on the side of the road report they can barely see through the thick red smoke from the dozens of flares which have been let off.
