Florian Wirtz, Arne Slot and Hugo Ekitike

Former Liverpool midfielder Charlie Adam believes his former club are the clear favourites to win the Premier League next season.

The Reds coasted to the title last term.

Building from that position of dominance, Liverpool have already made significant moves in the transfer market this summer.

Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez, Giorgi Mamardashvili, and Jeremie Frimpong have all arrived for a combined fee of around £200 million.

Hugo Ekitike is also nearing a move to Anfield in a deal that could rise to £78 million, with talks ongoing with Eintracht Frankfurt.

Speaking to Free Bets (h/t the Mirror), Adam backed the team and head coach Arne Slot to replicate the success of last season, comparing the Dutch coach to Liverpool great Kenny Dalglish.

"Liverpool are the ones to catch," he said.

The big thing last season was that Slot didn't even sign any players — apart from Federico Chiesa.

"He's done so well with the squad he inherited from Jurgen Klopp, but I also love the way he carries himself.

He has the class of a Liverpool manager, just like Kenny [Dalglish] did.

"People will hang on to every word a manager says, and I thought the interview Slot gave last week, upon returning to training, was truly special.

"It will have given the players some light — a moment to regroup and get ready for the new season."

While there has been excitement at Anfield over the new additions, Liverpool have had tragedy to deal with this summer too.

Forward Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva were killed in a car accident earlier this month.

Adam has praised the manner in which Slot spoke to his players following the death of their team-mate.

"I loved what Slot said — it really resonated with me," he said.
