Rivals fans have often used one excuse to discredit Liverpool's dominant Premier League title win this season.
Just look at the performances of English clubs in Europe this week.
Arsenal may have lost narrowly to Liverpool's Champions League conquerors Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of their semi-final, but they still have every chance of reaching the final in Munich.
Then Man United, 14th in the Premier League, eased past LaLiga's fourth-placed team Athletic Bilbao, all be it the Basque club had a man sent off.
It looks extremely likely that United will play another English side, Tottenham Hotspur, in the Europa League final on May 21 after Spurs beat Bodo/Glimt 3-1 at home.
Chelsea's 4-1 victory in the Conference League against Djurgarden was less impressive considering the chasm between both clubs, but it again points to evidence that English teams are still good enough to go deep in Europe's major competitions.
It's not to say that United, Spurs and the Blues are fantastic sides, or that Arsenal are one of the best teams we have seen in English football.
While some English teams have been concentrating on Europe for some time amid disappointing league campaigns, they still have the resources to better most of Europe's top sides.
It's why any suggestion that Liverpool's phenomenal league campaign should be tempered with the struggles of other teams is nonsense.
