Liverpool may need to accelerate their interest in Marc Guehi or risk losing out on the defender following the latest updates from Newcastle United.
The Reds have been linked with Guehi all summer, with the England international a potentially key figure in their future as Virgil van Dijk turned 34 in July and Ibrahima Konate courts attention from Real Madrid.
So far, Liverpool have been met with frustration in their efforts to sign Guehi, who captained Crystal Palace to the FA Cup last season and is a priceless asset to the Eagles.
And now, Newcastle look set to re-enter the race.

Newcastle famously chased Guehi all of last summer after the centre-back played a starring role in England’s run to the Euro 2024 final.
However, much like this summer, the Magpies endured extreme market frustration, eventually missing out on Guehi, who enjoyed a stellar campaign at Selhurst Park instead.

Eddie Howe has a lot of work to do in the current window after missing out on Hugo Ekitike to Liverpool, who are still relentlessly chasing star Magpie Alexander Isak.

And while finding a new striker is of critical importance to Newcastle, they appear to be keeping an eye on defensive reinforcements.
According to The Times [August 4], Newcastle are preparing to re-enter the race for Guehi, with Liverpool presently unwilling to pay £50million for a player in the final year of his contract.
That being said, Real Madrid often seem inevitable in the transfer market, so with Los Blancos chasing Konate, the Reds may feel like they have no choice but to up the stakes with Guehi.

There’s no other way of putting it other than Newcastle have been bullied by Liverpool this summer.
Ekitike was a long-time target of Howe’s and looked so close to finally moving to St.
Going back in for Guehi this summer might be seen as Newcastle poking an old wound, leaving them open for even more heartbreak and humiliation.
But then again, if they can get the move over the line, it would be a great way for Howe to retaliate after suffering so much at Liverpool’s hands recently.
