Liverpool to launch record-breaking Alexander Isak bid 'this weekend'

The transfer saga surrounding Alexander Isak could be set for a dramatic conclusion in the coming days after it was reported Liverpool will make a move for the Newcastle United striker this weekend.

With Newcastle having finally struck a deal to sign a striker in the form of Stuttgart's Nick Woltemade, the Reds will now look to make a record-breaking British transfer bid for the Swede, who is adamant he wants to leave St.

James' Park this summer after alleging promises made to him over a new contract were broken.

Liverpool had a bid rejected for Isak earlier this summer.

However, it now looks as though they will go back in for Isak ahead of the transfer window closing at the end of the month.

The Telegraph reports Liverpool will make a $175 million (£130m) bid for Isak.

While that is short of Newcastle's $200 million (£150m) valuation of Isak, it is thought that once add-ons and bonuses are included in the deal, the bid should be a British record transfer.

However, it is not a certainty that the bid from Liverpool will be accepted by the Magpies, who still need to sign another striker alongside Woltemade.

Newcastle has already had multiple bids for the Bees forward rejected this summer.

However, with Brentford looking to bring in Dortmund's Maximilian Beyer, that could see a new bid for Wissa accepted, which in turn would likely allow Newcastle to sell Isak ahead of the closure of the transfer deadline.
