The Reds have opened talks with Crystal Palace over Marc Guehi as Arne Slot looks to reinforce his defensive options.
Liverpool face two possible routes in their pursuit of the England international – push through a deal this summer by meeting Palace’s demands, or wait until next year when the centre-back’s contract expires and he becomes available on a free transfer.
Palace’s current asking price is thought to be higher than the Reds are willing to pay, though the Merseyside club still have six days to test the London side’s resolve.
Manager Oliver Glasner has already hinted that Guehi could be set for a departure from Selhurst Park.
He said: “We are very, very late to find replacements.
I think we could behaved much better than we did.
“It’s not the best way to start the season.
I think we are below the edge.
“If Marc [Guehi] leaves, maybe I will try my boots because I was a centre-back.
It’s Crystal Palace’s future and we need to add numbers.”
Oliver Glasner, however, insisted that Crystal Palace must keep Guehi for the second leg of their UEFA Conference League play-off.
Glasner told Channel 5: “We have to [keep him]?
Especially for the second leg.
“We have to keep him
If we want to compete in this competition, we need players.”
DaveOCKOP.com revealed back in March that Liverpool had held talks with Marc Guehi’s representatives.
Since then, we also reported that the Premier League champions have reached an agreement on personal terms with the Englishman.
Liverpool remain hopeful of completing the signing of the Crystal Palace captain this week.
According to the Daily Mail, the Reds are preparing another approach to Crystal Palace in the coming days, hoping chairman Steve Parish will lower the club’s asking price.
The publication report that Guehi is confident of forcing his way into Arne Slot’s starting eleven and is keen to make the move to Anfield.
