Liverpool will immediately seek to bolster their attacking options following the imminent departure of Darwin Núñez to Al-Hilal, marking the end of the Uruguayan striker’s three-year stint at Anfield.

The Saudi Pro League side have agreed a €53 million (£46.2 million) fee, plus add-ons that could take the total package to €65 million (£56.6 million), and Nunez is set to earn up to £400,000 per week on a three-year contract.

Having been granted permission to travel to Germany today for his medical, the 26-year-old’s exit will mark yet another gap in the club’s forward ranks.

The Uruguayan’s departure comes after Luis Diaz’s own move to Bayern Munich last week.

With those departures, Liverpool’s striking resources have been drastically reduced, placing added emphasis on the pursuit of fresh attacking talent.

The club’s bid of £110 million plus add-ons for Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak was thrown out last week, but it seems the Reds want even more besides Isak.

Andy Hunter of the Guardian has reported that any incoming forward must meet two essential criteria: possess the quality to command a starting berth under manager Arne Slot and represent sound market value in line with Liverpool’s budgetary discipline.

The “quality to start” requirement underscores the need for a striker capable of seamlessly integrating into Liverpool’s high-octane system, while “fair market value” ensures that the club maximizes its significant transfer income.

By adhering to these parameters, Liverpool aim to avoid overpaying for potential and instead secure a player who can immediately contribute goals and assists at the highest level.

Reports from France exploded last night that the Reds were keen on PSG’s Bradley Barcola, although a mammoth €100m fee is said to have to be met before any deal can be discussed.

With significant funds released through Nunez’s and Diaz’s departure – and further sums forthcoming from the exit of Chiesa- Liverpool have the resources to act decisively.
