Arne Slot swooped to sign the Dutch full-back on a five-year deal from Bayer Leverkusen for £29.5million.

Frimpong's former team-mate Florian Wirtz is also set to follow him to Anfield in the coming days.

The German playmaker will arrive at the club on Thursday for the formalities ahead of his move before undergoing a medical the following day.

It comes after Wirtz agreed personal terms on a five-year contract of his own, which will see him fit within the Reds' existing wage structure and earn around £10.2million-a-year.

Liverpool and Leverkusen struck a deal worth £116.5million including add-ons last week.

Slot is also set to complete the signing of left-back Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth.

A deal for the Hungary international is edging closer, with the Cherries having signed a replacement.

Adrien Truffert has joined from French side Rennes on a deal through to the summer of 2030.

The impending arrivals of Wirtz and Kerkez will take Slot's summer spending spree to £186million.

It comes after the Reds made just two additions before his first season in England, with the signings of Giorgi Mamardashvili and Federico Chiesa.

Detailing Liverpool's increased transfer budget, talkSPORT's chief football correspondent Alex Crook explained: "They have got money because they haven't really spent in the last couple of years.

"They signed (Giorgi) Mamardashvili, he's going to come in as a backup goalkeeper to Alisson.

"They signed (Federico) Chiesa for a relatively modest sum, again, a move that probably hasn't particularly worked out.

But I always expected Liverpool to go big."

The Premier League champions could still make more signings once the arrivals of Wirtz and Kerkez are finalised.

Liverpool retain an interest in Newcastle duo Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon.

Crook added: "They are massive admirers of Alexander Isak, no question about that, but it would take a huge offer to prise him away from Newcastle.

"The Gordon one is interesting.

It's one I've always kept in my back pocket, as one that could be revisited, because he was very close to joining Liverpool this time last year, really close.

"To the extent where the deal was down to the final stages, and I think Newcastle just decided, we actually can't part company with this guy.

"So it wouldn't surprise me if there's still an itch there on Liverpool's part that needs to be scratched.

"But I think it would take a big offer, and maybe they're going to have to get players off the payroll before they would look at that."

The Reds previously held talks over a move for Gordon last summer before the winger penned a new deal in October.
