Liverpool are looking to sign Bayern Munich defender Dayot Upamecano in January following a long-term injury for Giovanni Leoni, according to journalist Ekrem Konur.

Leoni had a fine debut, but he ended up sustaining a serious knee injury.The Italian has been ruled out for at least 12 months and this is expected to see the Reds spend big on a new central defender when the transfer window reopens in January 2026.

Konur cites that the Reds are lining up an approach for Upamecano amid his contract stand-off at Bayern.



The Frenchman will enter the last six months of his Bayern deal this winter.
