Liverpool are hoping to sign Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi before the transfer window closes and do not have a 'Plan B' in case a deal cannot be struck.

According to the Athletic, Liverpool's interest in Guehi is because the deal is viewed as a 'market opportunity' because the England international is entering the final year of his contract.

However, no other defenders are being considered if Liverpool cannot reach an agreement with Palace.

The recent signing of Giovanni Leoni from Parma for £26m means Liverpool now have four centre-back options, although there are concerns over Joe Gomez's fitness and Ibrahima Konate's contract situation,

According to the Daily Mail, RB Leipzig are ready to make a move for Liverpool's Harvey Elliott if Chelsea complete a deal for Xavi Simons.

Simons, who has made 46 goal contributions in 78 appearances across all competitions for the Leipzig, is keen on a move to Chelsea.

Leipzig are said to value the 22-year-old at around £60m and are open to letting him leave.

If a deal can be reached, it is claimed that Elliott is their top target to replace him, with Liverpool open to bids of around £50m.
