Jeff Stelling on FA Cup draw

As you may have seen yesterday Liverpool were handed the tough FA Cup third round draw away to Arsenal at the start of next month.

There was opportunity to face teams from the National League and below, but that's the luck of the draw ultimately.

This is bound to cause a stir but Jeff Stelling, speaking on his first talkSPORT breakfast show earlier, has suggested that the draw be seeded in future to avoid the top Premier League clubs being drawn against one another.

His point of view is that it will allow for teams lower in the football pyramid to earn ties against the biggest in the country and therefore have a better opportunity to appear on television to receive a financial boost.

"You look at Eastleigh and Maidstone, they played five games to get to this stage and they are looking for a bumper payday.

"And what happens?

They get a rotten draw.

No chance of TV coverage by the way, no chance of a big payday.

"What they need to do is seed the third round draw of the FA Cup.

For goodness sake, it is not too difficult."

Whilst the presenter may not be interested in Arsenal vs Liverpool, you can understand if anybody were to argue back that this kind of draw eliminates the competition from later rounds, thus allowing lower league clubs to progress deeper depending on the luck of their draws and performances.

Agree with Stelling on this one?

Or has he got it all wrong?
