Saliba fails to dislodge Konate

France will start Euro 2024 with a center-back pairing of Ibrahima Konate and Dayot Upamecano, reports Le Parisien.

That's despite the Liverpool star being dropped for William Saliba in the final warm-up game ahead of the tournament.

Saliba looked solid against Canada, although the team as a whole labored to a somewhat concerning 0-0 draw, just days after the same opponent had been beaten 4-0 by the Netherlands.



And Didier Deschamps is expected to restore Konate to the starting line-up for the first match against Austria.

At club level, Saliba enjoyed a very strong season with Arsenal.

At Liverpool, Konate started well but finished a little less convincingly, but hopefully this major vote of faith at national level will see him return to Arne Slot's camp with renewed confidence.
