Liverpool have no plans to loan Joe Gomez before the close of the summer transfer window on Monday evening.

The stance comes as talks remain ongoing with Crystal Palace for Marc Guehi.

AC Milan have been credited with an interest in Gomez while the versatile defender's name has also been floated in discussions over Palace captain Guehi, who is inside the final year of his contract at Selhurst Park.

However, the ECHO understands the Premier League champions are vehemently opposed to sending the long-serving Gomez out on loan before Monday's 7pm deadline and will look to resist any formal offer for a permanent move.

It's also understood no formal bid has arrived for the former Charlton Athletic youngster as of Sunday lunchtime.

Arne Slot sees the 28-year-old's adaptability as a major plus point for the campaign ahead.

But Gomez has played just 18 minutes of Premier League football in 2025, which came as a second-half substitute during the 4-2 win over Bournemouth on August 16.

Liverpool signed Giovanni Leoni from Parma for £26m two weeks ago but the 18-year-old defender has just 17 senior appearances to his name and with the pursuit of Guehi ongoing, allowing a player of Gomez's quality, experience and ability to play in several positions is viewed as a considerable risk at Anfield.

On Saturday, the Reds made an offer of £35m with a 10% sell-on clause for England international Guehi but Palace are holding out for closer to £40m for a player who can leave on a free at the end of this season.

Oliver Glasner had been determined to keep the 25-year-old at Selhurst Park for the campaign but chairman Steve Parish, speaking after the Community Shield at Wembley between the clubs earlier this month, accepted they were not in a position to lose such a valuable player as a free agent.

“Yes, of course, for players of that calibre to leave on a free, it is a problem for a football club,” Parish said.

“There is no doubt about it, unfortunately.

Of course, if you don’t care about tomorrow ever and put it all off, then we are a fantastic team.

“If we had four more players, I don’t know what we could achieve.

We have got a lot of outgoings this year because we are paying a lot of transfer fees for players that we have already got.”

Transfer deadline day is almost upon us and Liverpool still have business to do.

Liverpool remain interested in a deal for the Swede.

Meanwhile, Marc Guehi has been a player of interest all summer and Liverpool could still launch a last-minute deal for the Crystal Palace defender.

Parish added: "If you see the fees, they are just nuts.

But as far as people being here or not being here, it depends.

“If it is the right decision for the football club and for them, there will be changes.
