Liverpool supporters who chose to go to bed at a reasonable hour last night have woken up to the momentous news the Reds have agreed a £125million deal to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle United.

The Magpies ultimately weakened in their stance not to sell the player this summer with Isak undergoing a medical today ahead of a prospective British record transfer.

And there could be more significant movement both in and out of Anfield before the transfer window closes at 7pm this evening (UK time).

Liverpool have not given up hope of signing Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi, who is out of contract at the end of the season.

Talks are ongoing between the clubs in an attempt to break a deadlock with the Reds having offered £35m plus a 10% sell-on clause and Palace looking for £40m.

A deal is in any case almost certain to be dependent on the Londoners first recruiting a replacement, a point Palace boss Oliver Glasner made after watching Guehi score in an impressive 3-0 Premier League win at Aston Villa on Sunday evening.

The longer that situation remains unresolved today, the less likely it is that Guehi will make the move to Liverpool for the first half of the campaign.

It also means there is an increasing chance Joe Gomez will remain at Liverpool.

The defender is wanted by AC Milan, who are considering launching a bid to sign the player on a permanent basis with the Reds unwilling to entertain a loan move.

Liverpool would be more than happy to keep hold of Gomez, whose versatility has already been apparent this season for Reds boss Arne Slot.

One player who could be on the way out is Harvey Elliott.

The 22-year-old held talks with RB Leipzig last month over a possible move, although that was predominantly dependent on Xavi Simons leaving the Bundesliga side.

With Simons having now signed for Tottenham Hotspur for £51m, it's expected Leipzig will launch a concrete effort to sign Elliott.

Any other departures will be on loan.

Kaide Gordon has been a target for several clubs but is now close to spending the season at League One outfit Blackpool.

A decision will be taken on 19-year-old striker Jayden Danns, who saw a temporary stay at Sunderland curtailed last season due to injury, while Rhys Williams is another who could be on the move.
