Forty-one different players have been included in a matchday squad by Klopp this season but only his number 19 has been there for all 52 matches.

Only Cody Gakpo and Darwin Núñez, with 48, have made more appearances than Elliott's 47 this season.

While not specific to Elliott, his run-out in the second leg against Atalanta chalked up a niche but impressive milestone for the Liverpool squad of 2023/24.

The youngsters from 31 years ago included several players who left their mark on Liverpool, the Premier League, international football and even the Champions League.

We have seen seven other under-22 players in senior team action for Liverpool this season, making 16 in total.

Add in unused substitute goalkeeper Fabian Mrozek and there’s a workable starting XI of youngsters who’ve been in first-team matchday squads.

Had Liverpool not had so many players sidelined by fitness issues, a new club record for using players aged no older than 21 would not have been set.
