It has been well documented that Los Blancos have been long-term admirers of the French defender, and Liverpool have grown increasingly restless that just like Trent Alexander-Arnold this summer, a potentially high value sale could leave for free to the Spanish side.
A story Liverpool desperately didn’t want written, but as time goes on, the chapters are following a far too similar structure.
Talks continue to stall between Liverpool and Ibrahima Konate, and the Frenchman’s overall silence on the matter is concerning.
He gives his all on the pitch, and despite a rocky start to the season, he has turned his form around and will be such a miss for the Reds if he was to depart next summer.
Ibrahima Konate’s contract expires next summer as we all know, and Real Madrid remain extremely confident over the possibility of teasing the Frenchman away from Merseyside.
Now, according to a recent report from MARCA, Real Madrid have made first contact with Konate surrounding a potential move.
Liverpool have attempted to keep Konate at the club via a series of contract talks, but the defender appears unwilling to extend.
As a result, Liverpool are now treating Konate’s exit as a done deal, similar to how they eventually gave in to Alexander-Arnold’s wishes.
It remains to be seen whether Liverpool attempt to strike a deal with Real Madrid in January for Ibrahima Konate as they look to get some money for the defender.
That seems unlikely at this stage, given the knowledge that Liverpool will not be looking to re-enter a deal for Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi in January despite seeing a deadline day move for him fall through at the final stages.
With no intention to sign a replacement for Konate in January, it is unlikely that Liverpool let the Frenchman go as the defender braces for a free exit instead at the end of the season.
