Liverpool U23s played almost the entirety of their penultimate match of the 2020/21 campaign with 10 men after Morgan Boyes was sent off early on and ended the match with just nine players - but they still avoided defeat and moved above Manchester United in the Premier League 2 standings.

In their final match of the season in Kirkby, the young Reds put in a strong performance to draw 2-2 with Leicester despite the early signs being worrying for manager Barry Lewtas.

Manager Lewtas was then sent off for protesting the decision but Liverpool held on.

Liverpool defender Boyes was sent off inside seven minutes as Jake Wakeling raced through on goal after the Reds had given the ball away cheaply in midfield.

Leicester kept the ball largely without sustained pressure and Liverpool countered.

Leicester had more of the possession, but like in Liverpool U18s’ victory against Arsenal on Friday night at Anfield, the young Reds stood strong defensively and countered well.
