The Liverpool Echo have tipped the Reds to make a move for Schalke 04’s Rabbi Matondo.

The Anfield outfit have been linked with a move for Jadon Sancho in the past but he could well cost the club an absolute fortune – he is currently valued at more than £100m by Transfermarkt.

Matondo, who made the move to Gelsenkirchen from Manchester City last year for £11.3m, is currently valued at just £7.2m and the Liverpool Echo believes that the Wales international could catch the eye of the European champions.

There is no doubt that Matondo would cost less than Sancho and the coronavirus pandemic is likely to have an impact on how much clubs can spend this summer. However, just because a player is cheaper, it doesn’t mean that they will prove to be better value for money.

Sancho has been in stunning form this term for Borussia Dortmund. He has managed a huge 17 assists and 19 goals in all competitions, and has seen his Transfermarkt value sky-rocket thanks to his performances. Matondo, meanwhile, has just one goal this term, his only one since making the move to the Bundesliga last year.

Liverpool, as one of the best teams in Europe, should be looking to bring in absolute top quality, which Sancho undoubtedly is. Whilst 19-year-old Matondo should have a bright future ahead of him, he still has plenty to prove. Similarities have between drawn with himself and Gareth Bale in the past – it is time to prove those claims right before being linked to a big move.

Liverpool fans, do you think Matondo could be a worthy alternative to Sancho in the transfer market? Let us know what you think by commenting below!
