Liverpool will return to the pitch for the first time since the devastating loss of Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva, with a series of poignant tributes planned for Sunday’s pre-season friendly against Preston North End at Deepdale.
The match, kicking off at 3pm BST, will serve as Liverpool’s first official fixture since the tragic car accident in Spain that claimed the lives of the Portuguese forward and his younger brother last Thursday
Preston North End, working closely with Liverpool officials, have helped organise a comprehensive series of tributes to honor both brothers?
The ceremonies will begin before the 3pm kick-off with a rendition of Liverpool’s iconic anthem “You’ll Never Walk Alone,” followed by the home club laying a wreath alongside the visiting supporters.
A minute’s silence will be observed in memory of Diogo and Andre, while digital tributes will be displayed on screens and across the pitch side LED boards throughout the stadium.
Both sets of players will wear black armbands during the match as a mark of respect.
Preston have also created a special commemorative edition of their matchday programme, featuring written tributes to both brothers.
For supporters unable to attend Deepdale, the emotional fixture will be available through multiple viewing platforms.
The match will be broadcast live on ITV across the UK, providing mainstream television coverage for what promises to be a deeply moving occasion.
Additionally, Liverpool’s official streaming service will provide comprehensive coverage through All Red Video, with the stream beginning at 2:15pm BST – 45 minutes before kick-off.
The All Red Video platform, formerly known as LFCTV GO, offers Liverpool’s official on-demand and live video service, featuring pre-season coverage, exclusive interviews, and behind-the-scenes content.
The tributes come as the football world continues to process the shocking loss of the 28-year-old forward, who had recently married his longtime partner Rute Cardoso just 11 days before the accident.
Luis Diaz and Alisson were in Gondomar on Wednesday evening to pay their tributes at 7th-day mass.
