Liverpool enter the next round of the Carabao Cup when they take on Southampton in the third round of the competition.

The Saints beat Norwich City 3-0 at Carrow Road in second round and now face a trip to Anfield as their reward.

Arne Slot’s men made it all the way to the final of the competition last year when they were eventually defeated by Newcastle United.

Liverpool’s tormentor on the day will be lining up for them this season instead.

Alexander Isak helped Newcastle win the Carabao Cup and Isak is now officially a Liverpool player.

The Swedish international will be hoping to make it back to back wins in the competition to start his Anfield career with a bang.

But first the team must get past Southampton.

No longer an English Premier League side, Southampton will still provide Liverpool with a stern test.

Competing in The Championship should make Southampton battle hardened and they’ll likely come to Anfield looking to create a major upset.

And now we know when the game will take place.

The EFL have officially confirmed that the game between Liverpool and Southampton will take place on Tuesday 23rd September at 8pm.

Sky Sports and ITV will be broadcasting the fixture – meaning viewers in the UK will be able to watch the match on free-to-air TV.

The game is one of 10 games to be played on Tuesday 23rd, with a following 5 games being played on Wednesday 24th September.

Newcastle United, the current Carabao Cup holders, will play against Bradford City on Wednesday and that game will be broadcast on Sky Sports+.

Liverpool Football Club have three fixtures before the Carabao Cup third round game, with two in the English Premier League and one in the UEFA Champions League.
