Liverpool led the way with British-record-breaking deals during the summer transfer window.

The Reds spent over £400m, as they completed the three biggest transfers of the summer.

Florian Wirtz joined for £116.5m, Hugo Ekitike could cost up to £79m and Alexander Isak made the move to Merseyside on deadline day for £125m.

It all began with the sale of Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid following the conclusion of the Premier League season.

Although the full-back was due to depart on a free transfer anyway, the Reds were able to secure a fee for him thanks to the FIFA Club World Cup.

FIFA granted member associations permission for 'an exceptional registration window' between June 1 and June 10 so that any early deals could be completed before the tournament's June 16 start date.

As a result of Real’s participation in the competition, the England international joined the Spanish giants a month early in a deal that could be worth £10million to Liverpool.

The 'exceptional registration window' in June also prompted others not even competing in the Club World Cup to get deals concluded well in time for the 2025/26 campaign.

Liverpool benefitted as they swiftly secured a replacement for Alexander-Arnold through Jeremie Frimpong's arrival.

The full-back came from Bayer Leverkusen for the sum of his £29.5m release clause.

On top of that, the Reds made two more quick deals as Caoimhin Kelleher was sold to Brentford for £18m and goalkeeping prospect Armin Pecsi was recruited from Puskas Akademia for £1.5m.

However, it is 2029 before the next Club World Cup takes place; therefore, the transfer window is set to function as normal next summer.
