Liverpool links with Ajax centre-back Perr Schuurs make a lot of sense in many ways, beyond the fact that Jurgen Klopp's side are in need of another defensive option.
Among them are regular comparisons to former Ajax man Matthijs de Ligt, who signed for Juventus for a fee of £67m (€75m) in July 2019, after a summer of being linked with all the big European clubs including Liverpool and Barcelona.
The suggestion from some outlets was that Liverpool had tabled a bid of £27million (€30m) for the Dutch prospect, who has only emerged onto the first-team scene on a regular basis this season.
"De Ligt went for far higher and you can compare them quite a lot because they are quite similar defenders."
"Is he going to be a Liverpool regular in 12 months?
He is a centre back who is strong, with really good skills on the ball, who is brave and takes risks.
"The first person who comes into my head when I think of someone who is similar is Gary Cahill - Cahill on a good day could be Schuurs on a good day.
