Andy Robertson has reacted after Trent Alexander-Arnold was booed by Liverpool supporters during their 2-2 draw with Arsenal.

First against second would usually be a tense and fiercely competitive encounter at this point in the season, but with the league already wrapped up, there were no signs of nerves among the Liverpool fans.

Despite failing to win after taking a two-goal lead, this will not bother Liverpool too much after an impressive first season under Arne Slot, with the Reds winning their 20th league title in the club’s history.

Liverpool’s focus now turns to the summer transfer window and bringing in players to help them retain the title, as well as replacing big names who will be leaving the club, with one in particular sparking controversy.

Trent Alexander-Arnold’s move to Real Madrid was confirmed less than a week before this meeting against Arsenal, with fans letting him know their thoughts after booing him when he came on as a substitute.

This does not come as much surprise given that Liverpool’s online fanbase have been critical over Alexander-Arnold’s decision to leave.

In an interview with Sky Sports after the game, teammate Andy Robertson gave his heartfelt opinion on the situation, insisting that he “can’t tell people how to act.”

He said: “There’s a lot of emotion around it but it’s crucial in these moments that I don’t tell you how to feel and you don’t tell me how to feel.

“First of all, I’m disappointed to lose my best mate, we’ve done it all together and he’s made me a better player.

“He’s made a choice.

It’s not nice to see a friend being booed, but like I said, we can’t tell people how to act.”

Despite being synonymous with his goal-providing abilities, Robertson registered his first assist of the season against Arsenal in what has been a rather disappointing campaign for the Scotsman.

Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez and Ajax’s Jorrel Hato are often touted with a move to Anfield, while Wolves’ Rayan Ait-Nouri is also linked to Liverpool.

It will be a big summer on the red half of Merseyside during the transfer window, and one that could see Robertson lose his place in the starting XI or even depart like his best mate.
