Football can be a lonely place for an injured player.

While Rush was probably exaggerating a little when saying he was the club’s best player in the early stages, he was showing incredible promise, and even though there might be a clamour from fans — and the player himself — to get him back in action as soon as possible, patience is the key word to keep in mind.

"Thinking about it, he was probably Liverpool’s best player in the early stages of the season before his injury.

This hasn’t been the case with Harvey Elliott, however.

Moreover, given his huge potential and the ability he has already shown, it’s imperative that Liverpool don’t rush his recovery, and despite Liverpool’s midfield in need of a player like Elliott, there is no real desperate need for him.

While fit and available players are always in the spotlight, going from one game to the next, one training session to the other, those who are injured tend to be forgotten about by fans, pushed further and further into the back of their minds as the here and the now takes precedence.

Jürgen Klopp started Elliott on the right-hand side of the midfield three, and despite having not kicked a ball in a Premier League game in 18 months, he looked right at home.
