The family and friends of Diogo Jota have had the week from hell as they attempt to deal with the Liverpool player’s passing.
Jota and his brother Andre Silva have been the subject of tributes from all around the world after dying in a freak car accident in northern Spain.
The loss has cut deeply at Liverpool, where Jota was a much-loved member of the recently crowned Premier League champions’ squad.
The anguish of the brothers’ family is impossible to imagine and they must now face life without both Diogo and Andre.
For the Liverpool players and coaching staff, the despair of losing Jota will also be unbearable, and yet they know that they must somehow continue on.
The first step will be to reconvene for pre-season at the Liverpool training ground this week, with confirmation arriving that the Reds will return on Tuesday as planned.

Heartbreakingly, Jota had been making his way back for pre-season training when the accident which took his life occurred.
Liverpool pushed back an initial start date of Friday, when a small group of players were reportedly set to begin fitness tests, to Monday.

However, on Sunday, news broke that Liverpool players will return in full on Tuesday, as they begin to process their collective grief.
The first match of the summer is then scheduled to arrive on Sunday July 13th against Preston North End at Deepdale Stadium.
Conversations with players and staff will reportedly take place before deciding whether the 3pm kick-off will go ahead.

From there, Liverpool at least have almost two weeks before having to play again.
Marinos in Japan on Wednesday July 30th with an 11.30am kick-off.
Liverpool’s pre-season concludes with a double-header against Athletic Bilbao at Anfield on Monday August 4th.
The Reds will play the first game, a 5pm kick-off, in front of fans in what is certain to be an emotional occasion, before playing again at an empty Anfield at 8pm.
Liverpool’s pre-season ends slightly earlier this year due to their involvement in the annual community shield.
As Premier League winners, Liverpool will take on FA Cup champions Crystal Palace in the season’s curtain-raising event.
Tributes to Jota are already being planned for the occasion, which is scheduled to take place on Sunday August 10th in London.
After that, Liverpool will kick off the new Premier League season when they host Bournemouth on Friday August 15th at Anfield.
What happens on the pitch hardly seems to matter in light of Jota’s tragic death.
But Liverpool and Arne Slot are going to have to find a way to manage.
