Liverpool are set to embark on an exciting new season very soon.
With the Community Shield taking place tomorrow, as Liverpool face Crystal Palace for their first chance at silverware, we are very much now looking at a new-look Liverpool.
The players that have been brought in will provide fierce competition to those cemented on to the first team lineup sheet.
Milos Kerkez will provide much-needed competition to the experienced Andy Robertson whilst Jeremie Frimpong filled the Trent Alexander-Arnold hole and will also cover expertly for Mohamed Salah when he departs for AFCON as he is a player who can play right-back or right-winger.
Hugo Ekitike was a terrific offensive addition, a player who can operate across the front line, he will be key to our team this season whenever called upon.
Then of course we have Florian Wirtz, the German youngster who arrived for a British record transfer fee earlier this summer will be the first name on the team sheet.
Whilst the multiple additions for Liverpool have been widely praised by the footballing world, there has been a growing area of concern as the window has progressed.
The area of concern lies within the heart of defence.
With Bayer Leverkusen completing the permanent signing of Jarell Quansah, and Joe Gomez now sidelined once again with an injury, Liverpool now only have two senior centre-back at their disposal – Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate.
The focus at the moment appears to be on yet another offensive addition in the form of Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak, but there have recently been rumblings that Liverpool are now advancing on a centre-back signing that has flown under the radar.
Speaking on his Italian Youtube channel, Fabrizio Romano announced that Liverpool are becoming more and more interested in Giovanni Leoni.
Their interest is getting stronger and more concrete.
Leoni is an 18-year-old Italian centre-back who is already starting to really impress.
He played 17 times for Parma last season, and he boasts a playing style that Liverpool appreciate.
He is a tall and strong centre-back, who is agile and skilled with his head.
He is also a defender tailor made to the modern game, as he is very skilled on the ball and in the build up game, and in covering spaces tactically.
Liverpool will need to make a centre-back signing before the end of the summer transfer window, and it appears that Giovanni Leoni is high up on their list.
