Liverpool's move for Alexander Isak is about to move quickly as transfer dominoes begin to fall - opinion

Liverpool are waiting patiently for Alexander Isak and they might soon be able to make a move.

Despite spending almost £300m this summer, the Reds are willing to part ways with a lot more cash, with most of this saved for Isak.

They have already had a £110m plus add-ons offer turned down for the Swede, with the Reds now needing the green light from Newcastle if they are to bid again.

The Magpies want to sign at least one replacement first, however, with this hopefully accelerating in the coming weeks due to the transfer window shutting.

As well as this, their opening game against Aston Villa saw them draw 0-0, a game they probably would have won if they had a striker after missing far too many opportunities.

With that said, Isak’s move to Anfield has moved a step closer and so too has Newcastle’s wait to sign one of their targets, with the dominoes starting to fall into place.

This summer feels a little different to previous ones as the majority of clubs are refusing to sell their stars until a replacement is found, with this causing a merry-go-round of strikers in the Premier League.

Not only is this annoying for teams wanting to make a direct signing, but it will also be frustrating for Liverpool as their move for Isak is on hold until a few clubs have done the business they need to.

However, after waiting patiently, they may have moved a small step closer to signing the Swede, with Dango Ouattara’s move to Brentford potentially causing a domino effect.

With Ben Doak looking like he will make the switch to the Cherries, they have sanctioned a move for Ouattara to move to Brentford, with this in turn enabling Yoane Wissa to go to Newcastle.

Still with me?

Newcastle have wanted Wissa all summer and although he is not a direct replacement for Isak, getting him through the door is a big boost as they can finally put all their focus into getting a new talisman up top to play alongside the Congolese forward.

Then, once they have signed someone for big money, they will finally let Isak join Liverpool, putting an end to this saga that, in all honesty, is probably boring everyone involved.

As much as Liverpool want Isak and have actively been pursuing him, they know that they will have to look elsewhere if Newcastle continue to play hard ball.

According to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, the Reds have set a deadline of next week, with failure to reach an agreement meaning they will focus on other targets instead.

The only problem with this is Newcastle are very unlikely to agree a deal with Liverpool before their game against them on 25th August so they do not have to play against him, even though that is highly unlikely anyway.

However, keeping an unhappy player who said he will never play for them again at the club is a huge risk and losing out on at least £110m will be a huge blow for them, suggesting there is a chance they allow it, albeit reluctantly.

The dominoes are certainly starting to fall into place but there is still a lot of work to do in the meantime, with Liverpool having no other choice but to wait.
