Liverpool are far from finished in the summer transfer market and their attention may now be turning toward Bundesliga striker Hugo Ekitike.
According to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, the Reds are actively monitoring the Eintracht Frankfurt forward, but any move hinges on outgoings.
With the blockbuster signing of Florian Wirtz nearly sealed for a reported initial fee of £100 million, Liverpool’s spending this summer already exceeds £130 million following earlier deals for Jeremie Frimpong and Armin Pecsi.
If they want to add Ekitike to the list, player sales will be necessary.
Plettenberg reports that Liverpool “see themselves having a very good chance” to land Ekitike.
They have communicated clearly that they will need to generate funds first, with Darwin Nunez one of the names being circulated as a potential exit.

Ekitike, 22, had an impressive 2024/25 season with Frankfurt, scoring 15 goals in 33 Bundesliga matches.
Nunez has drawn interest from European clubs and the Saudi Pro League.
All three clubs, per Plettenberg, have been informed of the same thing: the Frenchman’s price tag is set at €100 million (£85 million).
Although United has made exploratory calls and Chelsea is still in the running, Ekitike is aware of Liverpool’s interest and the requirement that sales come first.
With Wirtz arriving soon, Liverpool will need to be selective and strategic with further spending.
Frankfurt are not under pressure to sell.
Sporting director Markus Krosche (via reports by Liverpool Echo) has made it clear that they will only part ways with Ekitike if the valuation is met.
“If the price isn’t right, then he’ll simply stay with us,” Krosche said earlier this week in an interview with Wiesbadener Kurier.
“We don’t have to sell Hugo.”
As it stands, Liverpool’s strategy is clear: bolster the squad with world-class talent while ensuring financial sustainability.
If they are to make Ekitike their next signing, it will require a delicate balance of timing, negotiation, and letting go of some key names.
