A report in The Athletic states that there is an 'awareness' that Liverpool needs to make further additions this summer, despite the understandable sensitivity around Anfield

Federico Chiesa is considered a no.9 option, adds the report, while Darwin Nunez is expected to move on amid interest from Napoli and Al Hilal, with talks expected to 'progress again soon'

Finding a replacement for Nunez is seen as the priority now, and Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike 'remain prominent' in the club’s thinking, while Viktor Gyokeres and Victor Osimhen are also on the club’s radar, although the pair are expected to complete moves elsewhere this summer.

It comes amid reports that Isak and Ekitike could be set to line up alongside each other at Newcastle United this season.

The Magpies are believed to be in talks over a possible move for the latter, although reports have indicated Einracht Frankfurt will need to lower their asking price if a deal for the attacker is to be concluded.

Several outlets also claim his arrival will not hasten the departure of Isak, a player who is widely considered to be the best striker on the market this summer.

It means Liverpool’s attacking resources could be limited if an elite striker is seen as vital heading into the new season.

Benjamin Sesko is another name who has been mentioned in recent reports, although the RB Leipzig man has also been linked with a move to Manchester United.

Liverpool has seen rivals steal a march in terms of signing a No.9 this summer, with Chelsea wrapping up deals for Liam Delap and Joao Pedro, United adding Cunha, and Arsenal reportedly closing in Gyokeres.

That said, making additions in other areas of the squad were seen as more crucial in the early weeks of the window, hence the arrivals of two full-backs and an attacking midfielder.
