Liverpool’s results in pre-season have been very erratic.

In the summer of 2019, defending European champions Liverpool lost three of their pre-season matches.

“If we look at these seasons where teams had at least three pre-season games, there is statistically little-to-no correlation between pre-season win percentage and the win percentage in a team's first 10 Premier League games,” was their verdict.

The highlight was the 3-1 victory over Manchester City in the Community Shield, with Darwin Nunez’ four goals against RB Leipzig almost as important.

They have had some big wins but also a couple of heavy defeats.

A 4-0 loss to Manchester United is never ideal, no matter the circumstances, and the Reds’ preparations for 2022/23 ended with a 3-0 defeat by Strasbourg.
