Danny Murphy says it is 'a really good sign' that Liverpool have won five Premier League games out of five without actually reaching the peak of their powers.
On Saturday the Reds beat local rivals Everton to sit top of the table on maximum points, building a six-point advantage over their closest rivals before they play.
Prior wins against Bournemouth, Newcastle United, Arsenal, and Burnley, were added to as Liverpool held on for victory in the first Merseyside derby of the campaign at Anfield.
First-half goals from Ryan Gravenberch and Hugo Ekitike were enough, as Everton only responded once through Idrissa Gueye.
Murphy, analysing the derby on BBC's Match of the Day, pointed out how none of the Reds' performances so far exactly fit into the vintage category, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing.

"There's good signs, because in most matches they've had great moments.
Today (against Everton) the more obvious thing was the fatigue, but still so many new players forming relationships and understanding what each of them does," the former Liverpool midfielder explained.
Claiming that Arne Slot's new strikers are still adjusting too, he continued: "There are still so many new players forming relationships and understanding what each other does.
Ekitike is different to [Alexander] Isak - so if you're playing with either one you have to learn their traits.
"So to win five our of five without playing at your best is a phenomenal start for them and actually is a really good sign."
Alongside Murphy was Wayne Rooney.
Just here, that allows Ekitike to get his shot off and it is a fantastic finish - it makes it very difficult for Everton to get back into the game."
Liverpool take a quick diversion from Premier League action with a Carabao Cup third round tie against Championship opposition in Southampton this coming Tuesday, September 23.
Then they are back on the quest for successive titles with a trip to Selhurst Park to face Crystal Palace next weekend - the last team to defeat Slot's side, on penalties in last month's Community Shield.
Alongside Liverpool, the Eagles are the only other unbeaten side in the English top-flight left standing this season.
