Luis Díaz to Complete Bayern Munich Transfer
Luis Díaz's transfer from Liverpool to Bayern Munich is imminent, with the German club agreeing to a deal reportedly worth around £58.6 million in a flat fee plus potential bonuses up to £6.5 million. The Colombian winger, who joined Liverpool from Porto in January 2022 for about £42.5 million, is set to undergo a medical in Munich and finalize his contract ahead of the 2025–26 season.
Díaz's intention to leave Liverpool became public as early as the summer of 2024, and despite the club's earlier resistance to offers and his desire for a contract extension, negotiations failed. Liverpool previously rejected bids from both Bayern Munich and Barcelona, including a €67.5 million offer, but ultimately agreed to Bayern's latest terms.
In the 2024–25 season, Díaz enjoyed his most productive period at Liverpool, scoring 17 goals after being repurposed by manager Arne Slot as a striker. However, Liverpool appear willing to let the 28-year-old winger leave as he seeks a new challenge, and his contract at Anfield runs until 2027.
The transfer follows other key Liverpool departures this summer, such as Trent Alexander-Arnold for £10 million, enabling the club to fund significant summer signings. Liverpool is now reportedly preparing a major offer to secure Newcastle striker Alexander Isak, who wants to leave Newcastle and did not travel for their preseason tour.
This move reflects Liverpool's strategic decision to capitalize on Díaz’s market value before he reaches his late career stage. Bayern Munich consider the transfer a strong acquisition for their attacking options, with Díaz likely to resume playing primarily as a winger rather than a central striker.
