It seems every time a transfer window rolls round, Luis Diaz is linked to Barcelona.

Barcelona’s pursuit of Diaz stretches back to before his arrival at Liverpool.

Club president Joan Laporta confirmed that the Catalan side considered signing the winger during his time at Porto in 2021, but Liverpool’s ultimately won the race.

That missed opportunity has fueled ongoing speculation ever since.

With Liverpool now entering contract talks with Díaz, the transfer rumors have only intensified.

The 28-year-old, whose current deal expires in 2027, has enjoyed a productive 2024/25 campaign, scoring 13 goals and providing 5 assists in 35 Premier League appearances.

Despite his contributions to Liverpool’s domestic success, negotiations over a proposed two-year extension with improved terms have stalled, with Díaz postponing discussions until July.

Now a fresh report from Mundo Deportivo has provided a worrying update.

They claim that Barcelona’s sporting director Deco has earmarked Diaz as the club’s primary summer target to address their lack of natural width on the left flank.

“Barça’s roadmap is very clear?

Luis Díaz and Joan Garcia are the two priority signings for this summer market,” the Spanish outlet report.

Central to the transfer saga is Diaz’s status as one of Liverpool’s lowest-paid starters, earning a reported €3.3 million annually.

Barcelona’s willingness to triple his wages, according to the report, has meant that the Colombian has “no intention” of renewing at Anfield while the Spanish giants remain interested.

Liverpool’s hierarchy faces a familiar dilemma: secure Diaz’s long-term commitment or capitalize on his market value before his contract enters its final two years.

The Reds have reportedly set an €70-80 million price tag, a figure Barcelona considers steep, but negotiable given their need for immediate impact signings.

Complicating matters is Liverpool’s own interest in Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz, with a €100 million+ deal potentially necessitating Diaz’s sale to balance the books

The Colombian has publicly stated his happiness at Liverpool and his openness to staying long-term, but the opportunity to join Barcelona – a club that has tracked him since his Porto days – surely remains tempting.
