But for a player reaching new heights at Liverpool, the debate over Luis Diaz's future at the club has become more intriguing than ever before.
When stepping off the bench to give the Reds hope of an unlikely comeback in the 3-2 Premier League defeat at Fulham on Sunday afternoon, Diaz notched his 14th goal of the campaign - his best such tally as a Reds player.

It surpassed his total set in the 2023/24 campaign which, having joined halfway through 2021/22 from Porto in a £49million deal and then missing a large chunk of the next term through injury, was his first full season as an available Liverpool regular.

Having now made 97 league appearances, Diaz will be expecting - injury permitting - to reach a century of Premier League outings over the remaining seven matches this season.
While a rumoured offer from Barcelona last summer failed to materialise, there is definite interest from the Middle East with the Saudi Pro League having earmarked Diaz as a potential target.
They will have received encouragement from Liverpool having agreed a deal to sign Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United last year before the Magpies pulled the plug.
With Cody Gakpo younger competition on Gordon's preferred left flank, it seemed Diaz was the more likely with which the Reds were willing to part.
That could yet be the case this summer as Slot looks to reconfigure his attack having admitted Liverpool are in the market for a new number nine.
For comparison, Gakpo has 16 goals this season in 36 appearances when on the left, while Diaz has seven 30 from the same position.

Certainly, the experiment of playing Diaz as a centre-forward during the winter months may have benefited the team and Gakpo but came at a cost to the Colombian's output.
There was also a solitary assist in the win over Manchester City, although Diaz did earn the winning penalty in Girona.
Indeed, Diaz has become Liverpool's form forward in the Premier League since switching back to the left flank in February following Gakpo's recent injury, notching two goals and four assists in his last six top-flight outings, two of which have come from the bench.
Until then, though, Diaz is proving the forward who can help drag Liverpool over the finishing line with another milestone, a first Premier League title, very much in sight.
