Luis Diaz scored his first Bayern Munich goal and then emulated Diogo Jota's iconic gamer celebration in memory of his former Liverpool teammate.

The Colombian struck on his competitive debut for his new club to help pick up the German Super Cup on Saturday night.

Liverpool and Diaz parted ways last month, as he moved to German heavyweights Bayern in a £65.5m deal.

The 28-year-old had previously been part of pre-season preparations with Arne Slot's squad, who were all coming to terms with the tragic death of Jota, 28, in a car accident alongside his brother Andre Silva on July 3.

Diaz and Jota shared three-and-a-half years together as teammates on Merseyside and the Colombian made sure the outpouring of love for the Portuguese - and support for his family - continued.

Diaz scored in the 77th minute of his first competitive appearance for Bayern.

He timed his run perfectly to meet a cross from Michael Olise and headed home.

The former Liverpool winger than ran to the corner flag, where he sat down and did the gamer celebration, which was first made famous when Jota scored a dramatic 4-3 winner against Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield in April 2023.

Diaz's goal made it 2-0 to Bayern after former Spurs striker Harry Kane had scored in the first half.

Opponents VfB Stuttgart replied with one injury-time goal, but it wasn't enough to prevent Vincent Kompany's team from lifting the German Super Cup.

The gesture from Diaz followed current Liverpool stars Hugo Ekitike, Cody Gakpo, Federico Chiesa and Mohamed Salah, who all remembered Jota in their own individual ways as goal-scorers during Friday night's 4-2 win over Bournemouth.
