Barcelona and their longstanding interest in Luis Diaz seems to reignite every summer.

The 28-year-old enjoyed his most productive season under Arne Slot – scoring 13 Premier League goals – yet his future at Anfield remains uncertain as Barcelona weigh up a potential bid.

Barcelona sporting director Deco publicly acknowledged the Catalan sides’ appreciation of Diaz.

Paul Joyce then confirmed initial Barcelona talks with Liverpool over the winger earlier this month before the La Liga champions shifted focus to Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams.

It emerged that Liverpool told Diaz he could depart if a club matched an €80 million valuation, a figure Barcelona currently deem prohibitive and are unwilling to meet.

Then, this week, a report from reliable Colombian journalist Pipe Sierra cast further doubt on the 28-year-old’s future at Anfield.

“Luis Díaz and his entourage are upset with Liverpool’s stance,” the journalist reported on Thursday evening.

“They feel the club has gone back on their word (once again with the player).

Something similar happened before with his contract renewal, and now with the possibility of a transfer.”

So, it’s clear that Diaz’s future is not crystal clear with his deal at Anfield running until 2027.

Currently, the Liverpool No.7 is enjoying a well-deserved break from football and is spending quality time with his family.

The Colombian is in Ibiza as his holiday destination, a popular choice among many professional footballers.

Fresh from his recent marriage, Diaz is making the most of this period of rest before the new season gets underway.

But while on island destination, Diaz has sparked yet more speculation by spending some time with Barcelona star Dani Olmo:

While it could just be an innocent picture snapped when the pair recognised one another, it certainly will set off a fresh wave of speculation regarding Luis Diaz and Barcelona.

This also comes after the Liverpool man recently followed the Spanish giants on Instagram.

It is the only club he follows that he did not previously play for.

Speaking in a Colombian press conference ahead of their clash against Peru at the beginning of June, the Liverpool winger admitted that he was speaking to other clubs:

“I’m very happy at Liverpool, I’ve always said it.

We’re waiting to see what happens.”

“If Liverpool renews my contract, or if I have to stay the 2 years I have left, I’ll be happy?

It’s up to them.”
