Luis Diaz is set to suffer an immediate blow at Bayern Munich with one of his only Spanish-speaking team-mates on their way out.

Diaz this week completed his £65.5million move from Liverpool to Bayern after three-and-a-half years at Anfield.

Despite Liverpool’s initial reluctance to let the winger go, having scored 17 goals in all competitions for Arne Slot’s Premier League champions, Diaz was determined to leave after failing to reach an agreement over a new contract.

Bayern’s second bid of above £65m was deemed too big of a sum not to part ways with the 28-year-old.

Having notably struggled with the English language during his time at Liverpool, Spanish-speaking Diaz is now facing another language barrier as most of his new team-mates speak German and English.

That led to Portuguese midfielder Joao Palhinha taking on the role of makeshift translator during Bayern’s training session on Thursday, given that he’s one of the few who can speak Spanish.

According to Bild, Diaz spent much of the day alongside Palhinha, who played a priceless role in helping the Colombian star settle in.

But before their friendship could blossom, Diaz has been dealt a huge blow with the 30-year-old midfielder now set to leave for Tottenham Hotspur.

Palhinha joined Bayern from Fulham for a fee worth up to £47.4m a year ago but is now set for a return to the Premier League.

On Friday, it was reported that Tottenham had agreed a deal with Bayern for the loan signing of Palhinha, with the option to buy him for £27m.

It was initially only expected to be a straight loan, giving Spurs the flexibility to spend funds elsewhere this summer, but Bayern inserted the purchase option in talks on Thursday.

Despite the setback, Diaz will be determined to hit the ground running at Bayern, who also signed his former Reds team-mate Sadio Mane in the summer of 2022.

“I can't say whether I'm worth the transfer fee, but I'm glad that it's been concluded this way.
