Reports linking Luis Diaz with an exit have resurfaced this summer window, with both FC Barcelona and Bayern Munich registering interest in the last month for the 28-year-old star.

Yet, despite enquiries from two of Europe’s biggest clubs, Liverpool’s stance remains resolute: Luis Diaz is not for sale.

The 28-year-old enjoyed his most productive season in Liverpool colors – scoring 13 Premier League goals last term – yet his future at Anfield has come under scrutiny.

Barcelona sporting director Deco has publicly acknowledged the Catalan sides’ appreciation of Diaz.

Paul Joyce then confirmed initial Barcelona talks with Liverpool over the winger earlier this month before the La Liga champions shifted focus to Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams.

It emerged that Liverpool told Diaz he could depart if a club matched an €80 million valuation, a figure Barcelona currently deem prohibitive and are unwilling to meet.

Bayern Munich’s sporting director Max Eberl personally enquired about Diaz’s availability this week.

Yet, echoes of Barcelona’s experience quickly emerged: Liverpool immediately rejected Bayern’s approach, conveying that discussions would not proceed unless an extraordinary offer arrived.

A sticking point around why the Colombian would want to leave is his perceived low salary.

Various sources have suggested the wide man earns as little as £55,000 per week, with some outlets claiming a figure closer to £90,000.

Salary Sport’s report of a £90,000-a-week wage fed fan theories about Liverpool downplaying his true value, while popular salary site Capology maintained Diaz was on a comparatively modest £55,000 per week.

From these figures, it would be understandable why Diaz would be keen to move on and secure a payday.

Now the Liverpool Echo have reported that Diaz is actually earning around per week £140,000 with Liverpool, while not on par with the highest earners at the club, still puts him well within the Andy Robertson/Ryan Gravenberch bracket:

“With two years left on his current deal, the Premier League champions are relaxed about Diaz’s situation, although the 28-year-old is keen to discuss an improvement on his current terms,” wrote Paul Gorst.

“Online suggestions over Diaz’s wage packet were robustly dismissed by Anfield insiders last year and it’s understood the attacker earns around £140,000 at Anfield.”

Whether the Colombian is happy with that is not known, but it’s clear that some of the figures doing the rounds online were not accurate.

With his Anfield deal expiring in 2027 when he will be 30 years old, the club’s stance on offering deals to players heading into the late stages of their careers could come to the fore.
