Liverpool will kick off their Champions League campaign by welcoming Atletico Madrid to Anfield on Wednesday night.

Arne Slot’s side remain perfect in the Premier League so far, having snatched a late 1-0 victory away to Burnley at Turf Moor last weekend.

The Reds are unbeaten since their Community Shield defeat to Crystal Palace at Wembley back in August.

Atletico Madrid, meanwhile, have endured a mixed start to their La Liga season, winning just one of their opening four matches while drawing two and losing the other.

However, Diego Simeone’s side come into this clash on the back of a morale-boosting win over Villarreal, with Pablo Barrios and Nico Gonzalez finding the net.

The Reds are chasing a seventh European crown this season, looking to improve on last year’s campaign, which ended in the round of 16 at the hands of eventual champions Paris Saint-Germain.

The Met Office has issued an update amid concerns that Liverpool’s clash with Atletico Madrid could be postponed due to extreme weather.

A yellow weather warning had been in place ahead of the match, with gusty winds expected to disrupt travel and potentially cause power outages.

The initial forecast warned of strong winds affecting road, rail, and ferry services, while coastal communities were told to be prepared for spray and waves as the weather front moved in.

The alert, which was active from Sunday evening into Monday, sparked fears over the midweek fixture at Anfield.

However, Liverpool and Atletico fans can breathe a sigh of relief.

The Met Office has since confirmed that the severe weather will subside before Wednesday night’s kickoff, meaning the European heavyweight showdown at Anfield is set to go ahead as planned, with no further warnings in place.
