Tottenham striker Richarlison shared a light-hearted message about his World Cup hopes after his standout performance at the weekend.

Tottenham began the new Premier League season in the perfect manner with a convincing 3-0 win over Burnley.

Richarlison had a standout performance, scoring twice, with his second strike a spectacular overhead kick from a Mohammed Kudus cross, who provided two assists on his debut.

Europa League hero Brennan Johnson then wrapped up the victory with a composed finish on the counter, capping off another strong display in Thomas Frank’s first match in charge of Tottenham in the league.

Following the win, Richarlison shared a playful post on social media, already turning his attention to next year’s World Cup after delivering the kind of performance that reminded fans of his ability to produce on the big stage.

After his brilliant performance against Burnley, Richarlison kept spirits high by posting an edited image of himself photoshopped as Ronaldo Nazario in a Brazil shirt.

He captioned the tongue-in-cheek photo with: “So there’s less than 1 year left until the cup!!!” – sparking plenty of reactions.

Kudus responded with heart emojis, Dominic Solanke added fire emojis, and James Maddison showed his support by liking the post.

The Brazilian forward endured a difficult 2024/25 campaign, managing just four Premier League starts as injuries and competition for places left him frustrated.

Speculation about his future has lingered all summer, with Football Insider reporting that Richarlison is prepared to leave Tottenham should attacking reinforcements further limit his game time.

However, in his first league start of the new season, he reminded Spurs fans of his quality with a clinical display and two goals, suggesting he still has a vital role to play under Frank.

The 28-year-old has struggled with multiple setbacks since his £60m move from Everton, missing 37 games last season alone due to four separate injuries.

Even so, Frank appears ready to put faith in him.

Despite already adding reinforcements this summer, Tottenham remain keen to strengthen their attack further.

Football Insider revealed Spurs are closing in on a deal for Savinho from Manchester City, despite seeing an opening bid rejected.

Former Spurs scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Savinho is eager to make the switch to Tottenham, particularly with next year’s World Cup on the horizon and a desire for regular football.

Time will tell whether Tottenham’s second approach is enough to convince City, but with Frank eager to bolster his squad, the club looks set to remain busy in the final weeks of the transfer window.
