Liverpool fans believe that Arne Slot is to blame for their defeat to Crystal Palace after one of his decisions before kick-off.

Federico Chiesa’s equaliser was allowed to stand despite a suspected handball from Mohamed Salah in the build-up, but it was not enough to salvage a point at Selhurst Park on Saturday, 27 September.

Eddie Nketiah scored a winner in the seventh minute of added time, ironically latching onto Marc Guehi‘s flick-on, a player who nearly joined the Reds during the summer transfer window.

It was the Reds’ first defeat of the new Premier League after a perfect start in their opening five matches, and while they still sit atop the league table, fans are extremely unhappy with one of their new signings.

Starting in the left-wing spot, fans were not confident about the German international’s chances of impressing at the weekend, and they were proven right as he was hooked after 74 minutes.

One supporter was quick to label the player a “waste of money”, while another fan went one step further, calling him “one of the worst signings in the history of football”.

While some have chosen to attack the player, who has failed to score or assist in his first seven games in the Premier League or Champions League, others have pointed the finger at Slot.

Alexander Isak also suffered a quiet day away from Anfield, having opened his account for the club previously against Southampton, and many have been left frustrated by the manager’s tactics as well as the money spent on these players.

Of course, blanks for both Wirtz and Isak will be a major concern, but the manager continues to make excuses for why neither is quite at their best yet after joining the Reds in the summer.

In addition to them, Ibrahime Konate struggled to deal with Jean-Philippe Mateta, picking up an early yellow card in the game, though he did manage to finish the game without being sent off.

The likes of Salah and Ryan Gravenberch were also ineffective, having played crucial roles over the last few weeks, with the Eagles pushing the players back into their own half for much of the game.

This is not a crisis, with Slot’s side still top of the Premier League table, but a loss on the road has been expected due to some of their last-minute escapes so far this season.
