The transfer window is in full swing with Liverpool internally discussing who will make the cut next season and whose services might need to head elsewhere.
Liverpool already have a brilliant squad, but with so many additions reportedly joining the ranks at the Reds next season, many players could look to depart the club if they feel their time on the pitch will lessen even more than it already has.
Darwin Nunez’s time at Liverpool isn’t ending in the way he would’ve anticipated.
The Uruguayan is now a Premier League champion, but I am sure he would be the first to admit that he would have liked to have had a larger impact on the title win than he did.
Nunez scored 5 goals in the Premier League this season, as he endured yet another frustrating season as Arne Slot preferred several other attacking options to him.
Signing for a lot of money, he has not lived up to his price tag, and it seems a move away is the only feasible next step for both parties.
A highlight of Darwin Nunez’s season, which in many ways encapsulates his career at Liverpool, came against Brentford in January.
With 25 minutes to go, Nunez was subbed on, and as Liverpool stared into the despair of suffering their third Premier League defeat in a row, Darwin Nunez stepped up and scored a quick-fire brace late on to win the game for Liverpool.
An encapsulation in its purest form – fleeting signs of brilliance, but no real consistency shown in front of goal.
As a result, that brace did not change Nunez’s fortunes, as he barely featured during the latter stages of the season.
Despite featuring 47 times for Liverpool, Nunez only started eight Premier League games, with a further nine starts coming in other cup competitions.
Such was Slot’s frustration with Darwin Nunez, that the Liverpool manager chose to play Luis Diaz out of position in the striker role whilst Diogo Jota was side-lined with injury.
A frustrating tale for both parties, and as a result Darwin Nunez has long been linked with a move away from Liverpool with much of the talk linking him with a move to the Saudi Pro League.
However, an update has come in from Ismael Mahmoud that may change the destination of the Uruguayan international this summer.
Mahmoud reports: “There is absolutely nothing between Al Hilal and Darwin Nunez, and there will definitely be nothing between Nunez and Al Hilal this summer.”
With Al Hilal seemingly cooling their interest in the player, it could mean Darwin Nunez may stay at Liverpool past summer and will have to work his way back into Arne Slot’s plans.
Otherwise, he’ll face a lengthy spell once again watching the action unfold from the sidelines.
