Fulham have suffered a spanner in the works over their proposed deal for Shakhtar Donetsk winger Kevin with one club aiming to swoop in.

Whilst it has been a largely quiet summer for the Cottagers, things are quickly ramping up on transfer deadline day.

Fulham are in talks to sign Samuel Chukwueze from AC Milan as he heads to Craven Cottage to complete a medical amid the club’s pursuit of Brazilian winger Kevin.

Yet, despite reportedly agreeing a £34.6million deal for the 22-year-old, Fulham have also approached Chelsea for Raheem Sterling to bolster their attacking positions.

With the deal for the number 11 seemingly thought to be over-the-line, a major update has seen Portuguese giants Sporting CP try to hijack the deal between the two clubs.

According to Sky Sports News on X (1 September), what seemed to be a guaranteed deal has taken a drastic turn as Lisbon-based side Sporting CP are making a last push to bring the South American to Portugal.

Sky Sports reported that although once believed to be arranged, “personal terms have not been agreed” between Fulham and the Brazilian, opening an avenue for the Portuguese side to put their name int the mix to steal the Shakhtar speedster.

This news could be a huge blow for Marco Silva who is eager to bring in at least two attacking players before the deadline at 7pm today (1 September).

Looking at the Cottagers’ squad, there is a serious lack of depth in the wide positions with only Adama Traore, Harry Wilson and Alex Iwobi the recognised wide men.

It has been alarming how slow Fulham’s transfer dealings have been given the squad has hardly changed across the summer.

Leaving the deals until this late could be catastrophic for their campaign ahead and could see the Portuguese manager grow frustrated with the perceived lack of investment in his team.

Furthermore, the west London outfit’s fans will definitely be growing restless by the extremely poor business done over the summer, questioning the lethargy shown by the ownership.

Kevin could be precisely what the club needs, but the deal may not even come to fruition if Sporting CP prevail in their last minute transfer hijacking.
