Liverpool’s transfer window looks set to start with a bang as a move for Jeremie Frimpong moves closer to being finalised.
The Reds have not taken long in filling the gap left by Trent Alexander-Arnold and are likely to sign his replacement before the Scouser has even left.
That will tick one of Liverpool‘s transfer boxes off nice and early, giving time to focus on other areas of improvement.
Although it is not currently at the top of Liverpool’s list, one of their tasks in this year’s window could be to sign a new holding midfielder.
Ryan Gravenberch has been terrific in his new role this term, leading to Premier League Player and Young Player of the Season nominations.
But Liverpool are running the risk of burning Gravenberch out if they do not sign an understudy for him.
And according to legendary former Reds midfielder Jan Molby, Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton could be perfect.

Molby was a phenomenal midfield player for Liverpool.
Winning three league titles and two FA Cups across 12 years at Anfield, he is more than qualified to give his opinion.
And according to Molby, Wharton might just be the ideal player to add to Arne Slot’s midfield.

After Liverpool fans raved about Wharton’s performance in the FA Cup semi-final last month, excitement has been growing that he could join the Reds.
Things have been turned up another level this week after fresh claims that Liverpool are monitoring Wharton and could sign him for £60m.
There is little question that Wharton would be an impressive signing for Liverpool.
The 21-year-old has proven himself at Palace and is getting better and better.
However, Rousing The Kop understands that there are currently no plans for Liverpool to enter the bidding for Wharton this summer.
The Reds are long-term admirers of the England international but are understood to be targeting a more creative midfield addition as things stand.
Wharton is understood to be likely to stay at Palace for at least another year, and sources have indicated that when he is eventually sold, it will be for a lot more than £60m.
When that happens Liverpool could be in the running, but they are far from alone in their appreciation of Wharton.
